A Trip to Africa in January!

The hospital in Kenya is finished!!! It is a specialized hospital including an ER, aids clinic, optometry and dental clinics. We are taking a trip and inviting ALL to go January 20-27, 2016.

We still need assistance… We are looking for donations for landscaping.

We need doctors and nurses or any medical staff or students in the field. We would love an optometrist since there is an optometry clinic and would love a dentist as well since there is a dental clinic.

If you are interested contact us.

Our Newest Project – The Women and Children’s Shelter in Provo, UT

I am excited to announce that Going Beyond Borders has decided to stay local this year. As many of you know, we have gone to Africa and Belize but after listening to many of your suggestions, we are helping those right here in our own back yard.

We have chosen the Provo Women and Children’s Shelter. Because of decreased government funds, they are in desperate need of our help. Many women and children flee their abusive situation and find a safe place at the Provo Women’s Shelter. Because of the seriousness of their circumstance, many leave with only what can fit in their car and sometimes with nothing.

The shelter has 2 phases; 1-a safe house where most of the women and children stay for 30 days or less and 2- a transition apartment. This is where qualified women & children may stay for 6 months to a years while getting a job and other means.

So, how are we helping? We have been asked to provide a high tech security system with cameras to help keep these women & children safe. We are also providing a play ground for the children to play, 28 mattresses, mattress pads, washers, dryers, dish washers, and may other basic needs for the 8 transitional apartments.

We will be having an event at the Provo Beach Resort for the whole family on Thursday, Sept 26 from 6-9pm. We want you all to come and bring your kids. This is going to be a fun night of games and food and we will be raffling off lots of fun stuff!

Tickets are on sale NOW! Early bird special is $40 for adult and $30 for kid. Who’s in?

Educating Belize: Complete

Project Educating Belize is completed!!!
We raised $20,000. We just went to a small village in Belize called Chunox to build the Seventh Day Adventist. We gave out 120 school kits, bought 5 computers and gave them electricity!!
We also donated 50 medical kits to the Chunox medical clinic.
While we were there we also built a Dome House for Rosa’s family which included a widow, her daughter and 2 young girls. We gave Yulie a new bed with sheets because she was sleeping on the floor.
Here are some pictures from our trip!

Charity Dinner Auction

On Thursday September 27 we had dinner with our charity auction at The Manor in the Riverwoods. Zagat award winner and top chef, Kent Anderson catered the dinner which included his signature filet with mango chutney. We were able to raise close to $60,000. We auctioned off artwork, jewelry, wardrobe makeover, front row jazz tickets, Arches Mansion in St George, a cabin retreat, and a day with officer Crook just to name a few! The night was a huge success and we thank all those who donated, supported and attended our annual benefit!

Hospital Update (VIDEO)

We recently sent two representatives from Going Beyond Borders to Kenya; Jake Neilson, a construction manager and newest member or our board as well as Chris Dortch, a videographer. These two men joined Ruth Oniang’o (former member or Kenya’s 9th parliament and board member) and were able to check on the construction of the hospital. They will be giving us an update at our charity dinner on Sept 27th at 6pm. Please enjoy this video created by Chris Dortch to get an inside look of their trip.

Hospital Pictures

We wanted to share some recent pictures we have received of the work going on for the hospital. The site where the hospital is being built has had ant hills. These pictures show the work of  men making bricks from the red ant soil. These bricks will go towards construction.
